Welcome to Reach Volunteering. We are a community and registered charity that connects people, skills and good causes.

To apply for this role, and any other on our platform, you need to be based in the UK, have at least three years of experience using the skills you wish to volunteer in a professional capacity or have lived experience (for trustee roles). Read more about our criteria.

Battle Scars is a 100% survivor-led and run, fast growing self-harm specific charity working with people of all ages and genders with local, UK-wide and worldwide services.

What will you be doing?

In order to strengthen our team of 4, we are looking for 2 easy-going people to join our informal, relaxed board of trustees. We’re particularly interested in recruiting trustees with fundraising and marketing skills but looking for people with new ideas and perspectives and a lot of enthusiasm. Lived/living experience of being affected by self-harm is a must (having personal experience of using self-harm or as a carer of a close loved one who self-harms). Having used our services is desirable but not essential. Board meetings take place roughly every 6 weeks in Leeds. Our founder is also our CEO.

What are we looking for?

  • Easy going
  • Able to think out of the box
  • Enthusiastic
  • Have lived/living experience of self-harm (direct or by supporting a close loved one who self-harms). Our definition of self-harm is any harm done to the body or mind, internal or external, with short or long-term effect.

Skills list reflects gaps in current board and we do not expect one person to have them all

What difference will you make?

Join our efforts to accomplish our vision, to ensure nobody affected by self-harm has to fight alone and to break down the self-harm stigma. Join your enthusiasm and skills with ours and help us become sustainable and continue growing to reach more people struggling with self-harm.

Before you apply

Please contact us via Reach for an informal chat with CEO. This may be followed by an informal interview with trustees before we ask you to complete an application
