  • Communigrow seeks new trustees with Fundraising, HR or Governance experience to join the board of a sustainable food education charity.

What will you be doing?

Over recent years, Communigrow has experienced an impressive increase in its income and in the services and activities it offers, as well as in the numbers of its beneficiaries and volunteers.  We have also been able to expand our facilities and infrastructure.  As a result, we are a thriving charity now looking for additional trustees to help and support our growth and development.

Applicants for the fundraising trustee role should have a background in fundraising, preferably in the charity sector; applicants for the HR role should bring a professional background in HR to this role and applicants for the governance role should have held a senior role in management with an understanding of the requirements of governance and the organisational structure of UK charities.

Experience of the UK charity sector is preferable (essential for the governance role) but a previous role as a trustee is not essential.

What are we looking for?

Applicants for the fundraising role should have:

  •  Knowledge and experience of diverse fundraising practices, including statutory funds, corporate and philanthropic giving
  • Grant fundraising and income generation knowledge and experience.

Applicants for the HR role should have professional background in HR with an understanding of the HR challenges facing small to medium size enterprises.

Applicants for the governance role should have a good understanding of the requirements of a charity achieving its objectives or purposes, implementing policies, complying with legal requirements and fulfilling the principles of charity governance.

All trustees are expected to have:

  • A commitment to the charity's objectives, strategic vision with good, independent judgement and an ability to think creatively
  • An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties and responsibilities of a trustee
  • Excellent networking, influencing and communication skills
  • An ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.

What difference will you make?

Communigrow has seen excellent growth since it was established 10 years ago. The team and board of trustees believe passionately in the work of the charity of teaching people how to grow, healthy and affordable food in a chemical and otherwise sustainable way, at the same time helping them to benefit from the social and therapeutic power of gardening and growing food in a community setting.

As part of our board, you will support and shape our work and strategic direction as well as help us to achieve our objectives. The trustee role will give you the opportunity to:

  • Make a positive impact on our beneficiaries, many of whom are the young, the vulnerable and disadvantaged
  • Play a vital part in the strategic leadership and strong governance of the charity, helping us to formulate our vision for the future
  • Meet a diverse range of people and build relationships with trustees, staff and volunteers
  • Build on and continue your own skills and experience
  • Develop leadership and strategy skills.
