South Central Youth is an innovative youth service situated in South London, providing holistic support for young people experiencing deprivation, poverty or adverse childhood experiences. We are looking for three new Trustees.

What will you be doing?

This is an exciting time for South Central Youth as we seek to grow our service provision to reach as many young people in Lambeth as possible.

In order to help us achieve our mission of ensuring every young person in Lambeth can maintain a fulfilled life with an increased sense of self worth we are looking for three new Trustees.

Objective

 

The Trustees, acting together, govern South Central Youth, safeguarding its assets and applying them as efficiently and effectively as possible to further South Central Youth’s objects as set out in its governing document.

As a Trustee, you will provide South Central Youth with strategic leadership and oversight, to help it achieve its aims. Trustees have overall responsibility for South Central Youth’s direction, its strategies and they have regulatory responsibilities.

Trustee responsibilities

  • To ensure the organisation effectively applies its resources (financial and otherwise) to delivering its mission
  • To contribute actively to the Board of Trustees’ role in shaping strategic direction of the organisation
  • Ensure there is an effective process in place for monitoring and managing risk
  • Galvanise support for the mission within the wider community and own network, and act as an ambassador for the mission
  • To ensure the organisation fulfils its regulatory requirements under company and charity law in England, Scotland and Wales
  • To oversee the development of policies and practices across the organisation which are in line with legislation and good practice

What are we looking for?

Person Specification for all Trustees

  • Strong personal commitment to social justice and diversity
  • Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities, and liabilities of Trusteeship
  • Good, independent judgement and the ability to think creatively in the context of the organisation
  • Strategic and forward-looking vision in relation to the charity’s objects and aims
  • Ability and willingness to work in a collegiate manner with your fellow Trustees
  • Prior experience as a Board Member or Trustee is desirable

We are looking for three new Trustees who will bring skills and experience in at least one of the following:

  • Charity fundraising experience or commercial business development skills
  • A legal background and qualification
  • Professional experience in Human Resources
  • Professional experience in digital and the use of technology
  • Lived experience of participating in youth work programmes or having grown up in the Lambeth area

What difference will you make?

This role will help ensure the long term sustainability and success of South Central Youth. As a vital member of the Board of Trustees this role will help set the strategy for the organisation ensuring that SCY serves its beneficiaries in the best way possible.
