PCAP is a dynamic and innovative charity working to improve disadvantaged people's lives through education, leadership development and social engagement. We are seeking up to 4 Trustees to help us with management, fundraising and marketing.

What will you be doing?

We recently transitioned from a volunteer-run organisation to a charity with a growing team of paid staff. We are, therefore, eager to attract Trustees with:

  • The fundraising or income generation skills, ideas or contacts that will provide us with the financial means necessary to sustain our long-term growth;
  • Or the accountancy skills to help us manage our finances and ensure that we are accountable, transparent and professional;
  • Or the marketing and communication skills that will help us present and sell our work and vision better.

We are seeking candidates with the following competencies:

  • Commitment to our mission to improve disadvantaged people’s lives through education;
  • Respect and appreciation for the African cultures and values that underpin our charity;
  • Enthusiasm about contributing to the fundraising efforts, development and management of a small charity;
  • Strong strategic and critical thinking;
  • Ability to identify opportunities and detect potential risks or challenges;
  • And willingness to devote the necessary time and efforts to their duties.

We would particularly welcome applications from candidates with one or more of the following experiences:

Desirable – Experience of fundraising from trusts and foundations or individual donors for a charity;

Desirable - Accountancy expertise;

Desirable – Experience at management level in a charity;

Desirable - Experience in communications and marketing.

The commitment required is up to 4 hours per month, including quarterly meetings, normally in central London, but via Zoom for the foreseeable future due to COVID-19.

What are we looking for?

We are particularly looking for candidates with:

  • The fundraising or income generation skills, ideas or contacts that will provide us with the financial means necessary to sustain our long-term growth;
  • Or the accountancy skills to help us manage our finances and ensure that we are accountable, transparent and professional;
  • Or the marketing and communication skills that will help us present and sell our work and vision better.

What difference will you make?

COVID-19 has raised our awareness of the reality that in order to survive and thrive as a charity enabling African and disadvantaged people to improve their lives, we need to build a core team of paid personnel. The pandemic has also provided us with irrefutable evidence that the lack of financial resources represents a huge threat to our charity’s capacity to serve its beneficiaries. We have started to remedy this by managing to raise enough funds for the next 12 months. We would like to consolidate this by building up our financial reserves, and by remaining transparent and accountable with the funds entrusted to us by funders.

In view of this situation, we are seeking Trustees with:

  • The fundraising or income generation skills, ideas or contacts that will provide us with the financial means necessary to sustain our long-term growth;
  • Or the accountancy skills necessary to enable us to have sound financial reporting documents, and good practices;
  • Or the marketing and communication skills that will help us present and sell our work and vision better.

What's in it for the volunteer?

We are a welcoming, dedicated and fast-growing team that is making a very positive difference to the lives of disadvantaged people in the UK through education, leadership development and social engagement. Working with us is a uniquely rewarding experience, filled with exciting challenges, innovative thinking and laughter.

We will offer you:

  • A values-led culture that will enable you to thrive as a Trustee;
  • Many opportunities for growth and development;
  • Flexible and remote working – you will be in total control of when and how you work as a Trustee.
