This is a great opportunity to use your skills and talents to help build a strong voice for change within the health and social care arena.

What will you be doing?

The role of a trustee with Healthwatch Nottingham and Nottinghamshire can be hands on and varied depending on the individual interests of our board members. Our trustees meet bi-monthly as a Board with some members participating in some of the activities of healthwatch; representing us on statutory panels, enter and view visits to local services and engagement events. We value your time and contribution towards a range of special interest and strategic oversight groups. You may be asked to take a lead interest and responsibility in an area where you have specific knowledge or expertise, i.e. HR, marketing, engagement, business development, finance and fundraising etc.

You will work with the board, chair and CEO to set our strategic direction, bringing your insight and knowledge to developing our business plan, setting policy, extending our reach and scope and actively ensuring we are constantly alive to the voice of local people in our work and activities.

Your opinions will help us shape how we extend our reach to hear the voices of people who rarely get heard. Helping us build partnerships with local communities and organisations to ensure that we understand the experience of people using health and social care services.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a number of new trustees with different skills and experience. You do not have to have had governance experience in the past, this is a great opportunity to learn more about charity governance and extend you own skills and knowledge.

We are particularly interested in people who bring expertise and insight into the following areas:

Digital Strategy, Social media marketing, PR, HR, finance, fundraising, events management, research, IT strategy, volunteering, volunteer management, business development, commissioning.

We also wish to recruit people who have personal knowledge of health and social care services. We value personal experience as it informs our vision for services that are fair and equal to everyone. Therefore we particularly welcome applicants who come from communities which face higher levels of health inequality especially black, Asian and ethnic communities, LGBT,Carers of people with long term conditions, disabled people, Deaf community etc.

What difference will you make?

Healthwatch Nottingham and Nottinghamshire's main purpose is to hold our health and social care providers and system to account using the experience of patients, carers and service users. By joining HWNN you will be part of a team of dedicated and passionate people who are committed to making the voice of local people have an impact on the services they receive.

To do this we need an organisation that is governed by people who share the passion of the staff and volunteers. This is a pivotal role within the organisation and as such is key to the success of our activity.

What's in it for the volunteer?

You will be joining a great team of people who bring their skills, knowledge and passion to work every day. This is an exciting time for HWNN as we are recruiting to our board and developing our ambition. It will bring challenges as we navigate the funding landscape, challenges that require creative thinking and flexible approaches. Working as part of a small team of trustees and staff, you will have the opportunity to help shape our overall strategy. Working with us to achieve our aims through strong governance and strategic focus, you will have the chance to make a real difference in how services respond to the needs of local people.
