Looking for a rewarding and enjoyable role as A Trustee Treasurer? Look no further than the Abbeyfield (Gerrards Cross) Society. We are independent society run by a board of Trustees. We provide sheltered supported accommodation for 13 residents.

What will you be doing?

Reporting to the Chairman

  • To be a member of and work on behalf of the Executive Committee to ensure that the committee is properly informed about the society’s finances.
  • The Treasurer ensures that the finances are healthy and well managed.
  • Receives invoices and payment requests from Bookkeeper, authorises payments via internet banking. 
  • Oversees Bookkeeper to ensure all entries are correctly posted.
  • Draws up monthly management accounts for monthly Trustee meetings. 
  • Part of the Executive Committee of 8 Trustees, attend monthly committee meetings (7pm, 2-3 hours). 
  • Prepares and monitors annual budget, tracking ongoing expenditure against budget
  • Prepares pack of background information and paperwork for the annual Independent Examination by our accountants and responds to their queries – Our financial year end is 31st March

 

Skills required

  • Current or previous, recent experience in accountancy, bookkeeping and financial management (hands-on understanding of bookkeeping is preferable)
  • Ability to make and monitor financial plans and budgets
  • Familiar and able to operate Sage One or similar
  • Familiar and comfortable with Online Banking
  • Computer literate, competent at Word, Excel and email
  • Personable character, confident, reliable, professional approach
  • Empathy with older people

 

Time required - to be discussed

 

The current Treasurer is in weekly contact with the Bookkeeper, that is either in the office or by phone/email. Committee meeting attendance is essential.

Payments, overseeing bookkeeping and handling ad-hoc questions typically takes around 1 hour per week.  Preparation for committee meetings is around 3 hours every month plus time to attend the meetings. 

Input to auditors centres around April and May and can take up to 35 hours in total.  Annual budget preparation can take ca. 20 hours and usually happens in January / early February.

It is useful if the Treasurer lives near to the Society, which is based in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire.
