Welcome to Reach Volunteering. We are a community and registered charity that connects people, skills and good causes.

To apply for this role, and any other on our platform, you need to be based in the UK, have at least three years of experience using the skills you wish to volunteer in a professional capacity or have lived experience (for trustee roles). Read more about our criteria.

Working with the CEO, the Treasurer will take the lead in overseeing the financial affairs of the charity, ensuring its financial viability and that proper financial records and procedures are maintained.

What will you be doing?

Children and young people with SEND struggle to develop relationships, build friendships and connect with their local communities. This increases their sense of isolation and loneliness that in turn impacts upon their physical and mental health as well as puts pressure on their families who are trying to support them. To help address this health care need, InterAct provides opportunities for children and young people in Essex to get out of the house, meet others, develop social skills, and enjoy physical activities and games whilst also engaging with their local community.

We’re looking for a volunteer Trustee Treasurer who believes these young people would benefit from more access to opportunities that help them become less reliant on care services as they grow older. The Treasurer will take the lead in overseeing the financial affairs of the charity, ensuring its financial viability and that proper financial records and procedures are maintained. The post holder will work with the CEO to assist and enable the Board to perform their financial duties, by explaining accounting requirements and providing and commenting upon financial reports in an easy to understand format.

For this role, we are seeking expertise in management accounts and financial controls.

What are we looking for?

Essential:

  • A passion or interest in supporting the development of children and young people
  • A commitment to the InterAct’s vision, values and mission
  • Willingness to commit the time required to prepare for and attend board and sub meetings, to read papers and communicate via email/WhatsApp
  • Knowledge and understanding of the charity sector
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Expertise in management accounts and financial controls.

Desirable:

  • A keen sense of strategic purpose
  • Experience of governance
  • Qualified and experienced accountant with business planning skills
  • Knowledge of the Charity’s Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP)
  • Ability to operate at a strategic level
  • An understanding of core fundraising opportunities
  • Working knowledge of charity, employment and/or health and safety legislation

What difference will you make?

The role of Treasurer is important to us. Not only do we need someone to help keep us on track financially and keep us viable for the future we are also looking for someone to help us formulate our vision for the future.
