Unique opportunity for a driven individual to complement a highly ambitious trustee team that is focused on massively expanding our support for the education of vulnerable children in Malawi.

What will you be doing?

Working in conjunction with the other trustees and volunteers, as well as representatives from MOET school, the Social Media Manager will be in charge of administering the charity's social media marketing strategy.

Our social media presence is currently underdeveloped despite our excellent donor base and operational track record. Hence it is a key priority for FOMOE to recruit a talented person to take ownership of our marketing strategy across platforms (Facebook, Youtube, LinkedIn, fomoe.org, etc.) in order to support fundraising, awareness and our ambitious growth plans.

Envisaged tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Deliberate planning, marketing strategy and goal setting
  • Development of brand awareness and online reputation
  • Content management (including website)
  • SEO (search engine optimization) and generation of inbound traffic
  • Reputation management

What are we looking for?

  • Enthusiastic about our mission
  • Able to devote the time required to make the role a success
  • Experience with social media marketing

What difference will you make?

FOMOE has been raising funds for Mangochi Orphans Education and Training (MOET) since 2010.

MOET is based in Mangochi, a township in the southern region of Malawi with a specific focus on orphans and has a fantastic record of helping talented children pursue a primary, secondary and tertiary education against the odds. It started in 1999 with 10 orphans being taught under a grass shelter by Patterson Majonanga, who is the school principal. It has since grown to include eight classrooms, a nursery block, a library, an administration block, a kitchen, a vocational training block, a playground and a large food garden.

The area has a 60% poverty rate and low life expectancy with 12% of children in the southern area of Malawi being orphans. Across Malawi 25% of primary school aged children do not attend school. Mangochi has a literacy rate of 53%, which is the lowest for any district in Malawi and is 15.6% lower than the national average. It is not an easy place for a child to grow up and excel in, especially if you are an orphan. Patterson Majonanga set out to try and change this situation and MOET is now one of the most respected schools in the area with a pass rate substantially higher than the national rate.

What's in it for the volunteer?

  • Be part of a team striving to double our available funding
  • Spearhead the launch of a holistic social media strategy
  • Change the fate of vulnerable children by providing them with an education, vocational training and other life skills
