Welcome to Reach Volunteering. We are a community and registered charity that connects people, skills and good causes.

To apply for this role, and any other on our platform, you need to be based in the UK, have at least three years of experience using the skills you wish to volunteer in a professional capacity or have lived experience (for trustee roles). Read more about our criteria.

We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Trustee to join our board and take a lead advisory role on all matters related to digital transformation, AI, and technology strategy.

What will you be doing?

As a trustee, you will bring your expertise in technology to ensure that our charity’s use of digital tools, AI, and digital strategy aligns with both our mission and future aspirations. You will play a key role in advising the board and senior leadership team, participating in a sub-group focused on digital transformation, and providing governance oversight on all digital initiatives. The board recognises that this is a crucial time for us as a charity to ensure that digital initiatives, including AI, are developed and implemented in a way that prioritizes safeguarding and the safety of vulnerable children, young people, and families.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a trustee who can bring a blend of strategic insight, technological expertise, and a commitment to our cause. You should be passionate about supporting children and families who have experienced abuse and be keen to help shape a digital future that enhances our impact, while being mindful of the risks to our beneficiaries in the online world.

  • Expertise in Digital Strategy and AI: Experience in leading or advising on digital transformation strategies, with a particular focus on AI, data analytics, and emerging technologies.
  • Experience in Governance: Previous experience serving as a trustee or in a senior governance role, ideally within the charity or public sector, with a clear understanding of governance frameworks, risk management, and regulatory requirements.
  • Understanding of the Sector: A solid understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing charities, particularly those supporting vulnerable children and families.
  • Commitment to Safeguarding and Ethics: A strong commitment to safeguarding principles, particularly in relation to technology and AI. You should be highly aware of the potential risks the online world presents to children and young people and be proactive in advising the charity on how to protect our beneficiaries from digital harm.
  • Collaborative and Inclusive Approach: Ability to work with diverse teams and engage with trustees, senior leadership, and staff, providing clear and constructive advice while respecting diverse perspectives.
  • Leadership and Vision: The ability to inspire and challenge the board and leadership team, bringing a clear vision for how digital transformation and AI can support the charity’s mission.

What difference will you make?

Because you will be passionate about supporting children and families who have experienced abuse and be keen to help shape a digital future that enhances our impact, while being mindful of the risks to our beneficiaries in the online world, you will make an enormous difference to the board of trustees, who do not currently have a high level of expertise in digital transformation strategy. You will have a real opportunity to offer your unique skill set to bring this groundbreaking technology and make it work for Imara and be proactive in advising us on how to protect children and young people from digital harm.
