Board meetings are typically remote and take place every 2-3 months. Work outside of board meetings can take place at the trustee's discretion.

We're looking for up to three trustees to join the board of Mind Over Mountains, an ambitious and innovative mental health charity that helps people to thrive through therapeutic outdoor experiences. 

What will you be doing?

Mind Over Mountains is an ambitious and innovative mental health charity that helps people to thrive through therapeutic outdoor experiences. We support people to restore and sustain their mental health through a highly integrated practice that brings together walking in nature, mindfulness, and professional coaching and counselling.

We are looking for up to three Trustees to join our Board. The charity is looking for candidates from a diverse range of backgrounds with skills and abilities to complement those of existing Trustees. We wish to appoint Trustees who can contribute to the Board and support our CEO delivering our ambitious three-year strategy looking forward to a future of continuing growth, change, ambition, and development. At this time, we are seeking new Trustees with specific skills and experience in Finance, Mental Health, Safeguarding and Charity Management & Governance.

The Trustees role is unremunerated but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.

  • A brief statement of interest (maximum 2 sides of A4) indicating why you are interested in the Trustee appointment with Mind Over Mountains and the specific skills you are able to bring to the charity.

We expect to be able to advise candidates by October 18th whether they have been shortlisted for an interview. Interviews will be held virtually on 24th and 25th October and we expect to make appointments by early November.

What are we looking for?

All Trustees should be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Strong empathy and enthusiasm for Mind Over Mountains and a commitment to its vision and values, including as a more diverse and inclusive organisation.
  • The ability to bring new networks of engagement to the charity to expand its profile locally and nationally.
  • A good understanding of the principles of corporate governance.
  • Integrity, relevant experience, and the ability to contribute effectively as a Board member.

We are also looking for people with the following specific skills and expertise:

  • Financial with understanding of charity accounting.
  • Mental health practitioner.
  • Safeguarding knowledge and expertise.
  • Charity management/governance at a senior level.

Our current Board has a good gender and age balance. We wish to increase our diversity and therefore particularly welcome applications of people from ethnic minority backgrounds. The Mind Over Mountains Board recognise that valuable perspectives may be present in different combinations of roles and experiences.
