The role of the trustee is to support the chair by ensuring the board functions smoothly. The trustee may carry out their duties directly or delegate them to a member of staff and ensure that they have been carried out. 

What will you be doing?

In addition to the general responsibilities of a trustee, duties of the trustee are as follows:

  • Ensuring that the organisation pursues its stated objects (purposes), as defined in its governing document, by developing and agreeing a long-term strategy
  • Ensuring that the organisation applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its charitable objects (ie the charity must not spend money on activities that are not included in its own objects, however worthwhile or charitable those activities are) for the benefit of the public.
  • Utilise your first-hand experience and insights gained from engaging with TMAF services to recommend innovative ways in which TMAF can enhance its support for beneficiaries
  • Safeguarding the good name and values of the organisation
  • Ensuring the effective and efficient administration of the organisation, including having appropriate policies and procedures in place
  • Oversee financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress. Review and approve the charity’s financial statements.
  • Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively.
  • Approve operational strategies and policies, and monitor and evaluate their implementation.

What are we looking for?

  • Good general education, A level or beyond, including Maths and English at least to GCSE or equivalent 
  • Lived experience of mental health/well-being issues 
  • Used a TMAF service in the past 2 years
  • Ability to think creatively 
  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing or verbally 
  • Ability to work effectively with a range of individuals 
  • Ability to work effectively with a democratic structure
  • Ability to act cooperatively and not in the interests of one particular group and to reach object and independent decisions 
  • Ability to use judgement to ensure the long term sustainability of the Thelma Matilda Alves Foundation 
  • Information gathering skills, for example acquiring knowledge of relevant legislation, charity law and current trends
