There will be some paper processing work but on our previous experience of around 20 cases a month we are not talking days, but hours.

01 Jun 2020

We are undergoing a major change and need trustees who will assist ithe board in processing, evaluating grant applications from  homeless families being rehoused. We have ceased trading activites becoming grant awarding SCIO

What will you be doing?

We ahave moved  from company to SCIO status. We are returning to our routes and looking to provide 'starter packs' or cash equivalent vouchers to homeless families/individuals being rehoused. We need two or more trustees to be OSCR compliant and they will also play an active part in putting the processes and system into place. We believe that there are sufficient current reserves to meet demand ( within Falkirk District) for a period of 24/30 months although this could be extended by donnations and fund raising. Company well established locally with a recognised name. We are out of furniture recycling and have closed the furniture retail outlet so have no property costs. One concept is that we use e a voucher system for families redeemable for household essentials (Asda are interested) but we are open to fresh thinking. Communication with Social Works Teams/Housing Associations can also feature. We have the previous experience in the work involved but are very open to some fresh thinking and effort to take it all forward.A hands on approach welcomed.

What are we looking for?

Understanding of charitable status with a knowledge of administration and financial workings coupled with a willingness to be hands on in the activities. On historic numbers we are looking at in broad terms around 20 cases a month. We will design a simple application form - obtain confiramation from the appropriate housing agency of the resettlement taking place and issue the appropriate vouncher. A description of our previous starter pack content is available.

What difference will you make?

There is statutory assistance available to help homeless people but there have been fierce cutbacks over the past few years. It is also well documented that the Universal Credit system takes weeks to trigger. The starter pack concept fucusses on being in place on day one and whilst it is not major item of support it can help ease the inital hurdles.

What's in it for the volunteer?

The opportunity is to help needy families and individuals and to assist them in settling into a sustainable enviroment. Simply to make a dfference.
