Welcome to Reach Volunteering. We are a community and registered charity that connects people, skills and good causes.

To apply for this role, and any other on our platform, you need to be based in the UK, have at least three years of experience using the skills you wish to volunteer in a professional capacity or have lived experience (for trustee roles). Read more about our criteria.

We are looking for two trustees to join the board of our local scout group in Chippenham, Wiltshire.

We are especially interested in applications from candidates who have a background in risk management or property management.

What will you be doing?

We are a growing group with our own premises.  This year we are expanding to create three new sections, so we can offer scouting opportunities and activities to young people between the ages of 4 and 14 years.

The Trustee Board is a team of volunteers who work together to make sure Scouts is run safely and legally.  At the heart of their role is a focus on strategy, performance and assurance.  Effective Trustee Board governance helps our volunteers deliver fantastic programmes that give young people skills for life.

We are especially interested in applications from candidates who have a background in risk management or property management.  Part of the role will be to work with our volunteer section leaders and to become part of the local scouting community, so it is important that you live in the Chippenham area.

What are we looking for?

The successful candidates will be able to work effectively as members of the trustee team, as well as with our group of volunteer section leaders.

The risk management role will require the identification of risks, which may be environmental or as part of the activities being undertaken, work with the relevant team members to assess those risks, and then to help identify the right risk mitigations.  The successful candidate will probably have a background in organisational management.

The property management role will suit someone with a practical background in building and property maintenance.  We have volunteers who can contribute towards the maintenance of our buildings, but this needs to be coordinated and overseen, so our buildings and property are kept safe.

What difference will you make?

As part of our board of trustees you will support and shape our work and strategic direction, as well as help us achieve our purpose to deliver scouting opportunities to young people.

The risk management trustee role will involve the management of all areas of risk in the services we provide, ensuring the risk register is maintained, mitigating actions identified and assigned, and issues identified and followed up.  This will help us ensure that our scouting community is kept safe.

The property trustee role will have primary responsibility for our buildings and property,  They will look after records of ownership of property and equipment, ensure correct insurance is in place, and make sure buildings and equipment are working well.

Before you apply

Please contact us via Reach with any questions.  Please state why you are interested in the role and your relevant experience.
