A small Multi Academy Trust based in East Devon, we provide a supportive and collaborative environment and a broad, rich and exciting curriculum that prepares our young people for the next stage of their learning.

What will you be doing?

Acorn Multi Academy Trust is in its ninth year of operation and the seven primary schools within the trust are flourishing. The board is mindful of continuing to improve the standards in our own schools through collaborative working practices, at the same time as developing a robust growth strategy which will secure the long-term sustainability of the trust. We are looking for new trustees to join our board who are keen to apply their transferable skills in an educational setting and with the ability to play a strategic role to successfully effect change and meet the objectives of the Trust.

The core functions of the role are ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction of the trust; holding executive leaders to account for the performance of the schools, pupils and staff; overseeing the financial performance of the trust and making sure its public money is well spent. Trustees are responsible for determining the overall strategic direction and development of the trust through good governance and clear strategic planning.

What are we looking for?

Trustees are expected to abide by the trust’s code of conduct and the Seven Nolan Principles of Public Life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.

Trustees should have the energy and enthusiasm to work strategically and with the skills and experience to deliver the core functions of the trust board. The strategic expertise required for the role includes skills in areas such as financial management, accountancy, education, risk, legal/compliance, marketing and change management. Trustees should have a consistent focus upon what is best for the trust’s schools and pupils and the ability to evaluate and interpret management information and other data.

Trustees should be willing to uphold the Christian ethos within the church schools of the Trust and support the individual ethos of the community schools. As a trustee your insight, experience and ideas can widen the perspective of our boardroom.

What difference will you make?

As a member of the board of Acorn Multi Academy Trust you will support and shape our work and strategic direction, as well as help us achieve our core purpose: 'to provide high quality education and deliver the best possible outcomes for young people, enabling every child to flourish, regardless of background'. You will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of young people across the small villages and market towns of East Devon and West Dorset.

The board of Acorn MAT has a passion for education and a commitment to continuous school improvement to ensure the best possible outcomes. As a trustee you will need to gain a good understanding of the views and needs of our pupils, staff, parents and local communities and work with other trustees in a supportive and constructive way to ensure the board is effective when it meets, providing challenge and advice to the trust’s executive leadership team
