Join Ignite Hubs as a Trustee and help transform young lives through education. We are looking for an experienced HR professional to lead our People strategy to make Ignite Hubs a great place to work and volunteer.

What will you be doing?

We are looking for a talented trustee with a background in HR/People to join our Board. You will play a vital role in supporting our charity’s growth by helping us build strong, sustainable, and inclusive people practices.

One of our key strategic projects is designing and implementing the Ignite Portal, a digital platform to manage the life cycle of our staff, volunteers, mentors, and tutors. Your experience and input will be essential to help shape this tool and ensure it effectively supports onboarding, engagement, development, and offboarding processes.

Key Responsibilities

1. Governance and Strategy

  • Govern the charity, ensuring its activities align with its charitable purpose and provide public benefit.
  • Contribute to the development and approval of the charity’s strategic plan, with a focus on people.
  • Provide expert advice and oversight on the charity’s People strategy.
  • Ensure the charity complies with its constitution, charity law, and relevant legislation.

2. People Leadership

  • Provide strategic oversight and advice on all HR and people-related matters.
  • Support the design, development, and implementation of the Ignite Portal for managing and engaging our staff, volunteers, and other stakeholders.
  • Act as a sounding board for the CEO on HR policies, culture, and organisational structure.
  • Review and advise on our HR policies, staff handbook, and volunteer guidelines.
  • Support the development of initiatives to foster staff and volunteer engagement and continuous learning.

5. Board Participation

  • Support fundraising efforts to ensure the charity has adequate resources to achieve its objectives.
  • Act as an ambassador for the charity, promoting its work and representing it externally when required.
  • Monitor the charity’s risk register and take action to address emerging risks.
  • Attend and actively participate in Board meetings and any sub-committee meetings as required.
  • Prepare thoroughly for meetings by reviewing papers and contributing to discussions and decision-making.
  • Participate in the recruitment, induction, and development of new Trustees.

What are we looking for?

About You

  • Passionate about improving the lives of children and young people through education.
  • Excellent understanding of charity governance and the role of a Trustee or a commitment to developing expertise in this area.
  • Senior-level experience in HR, people development, organisational development, or a related field.
  • Experience designing or implementing HR systems and platforms a bonus.
  • Experience working or managing volunteers a bonus.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Sound judgment and the ability to make decisions in the best interests of the charity.
  • Ability to think strategically and contribute to long-term planning.
  • Willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to the role.

Time Commitment

  • Approximately 4-6 hours per month, including:
  • Attending Board meetings (four per year, usually lasting 1.5 to 2 hours).
  • Participating in sub-committee meetings or working groups as required.
  • Attending charity events, training sessions, or strategy days as required.
  • Preparing for meetings and reviewing documents.
