We're seeking trustees to join our board with HR, legal or business experience. We're a user-led charity and social enterprise, based in Sussex and Croydon. We work to change the lives of disabled people, people with support needs and carers.

What will you be doing?

For us to realise our vision and values, we need highly effective and committed trustees to provide support to our leadership team to help ensure that we achieve our aims.

We are seeking someone with HR or legal experience to contribute to our goals and strategies in a meaningful way.

Our board comprises 75% of those with lived experience of disability, either directly or through caring for a disabled family member.

Board meetings are held quarterly. We also hold an annual general meeting. We would like Board Members to be involved; to be visible and engage with our members and the public.

What are we looking for?

We are specifically looking for people to share their expertise in HR, legal sector, change management and business skills . You also need to be:

  • Passionate about empowering disabled people to have choice and control
  • Recognise the value of diversity and difference
  • Able to think strategically and objectively
  • Work well as part of a team
  • Confident about talking with lots of different people and organisations

We are committed to maintaining a board of with 75% disabled representation, whether those that are themselves disabled or people who care for a disabled person. Our aim at Independent Lives is that the strategic development of the organisation should be led by people with lived experience of disability.

However, there is certainly room for those that are not disabled but that possess the above qualities to make a difference, so if this describes you, please apply.

What difference will you make?

We need people like you to help us develop as a charity and move forward. You will join us at a time when you can do something worthwhile, necessary and influential.

With our Trustees, our job is to empower disabled people and work together to develop opportunities for people to live fulfilled independent lives.

By joining our Board you will pay a major role in support for local disabled people and join the inspiring team that helps make it all happen.
