The Society awards grants for projects that help to strengthen Austro-British cooperation across a range of different fields. As Treasurer you will be key to determining how the Society's funds for these purposes are best deployed over time.

What will you be doing?

The Society is keen to ensure that its grant-giving programme becomes more widely known both in the UK and in Austria. The Trustee who takes on the role of Treasurer does not need to speak German or to have links with Austria, although either or both would be welcome. The Society celebrates its 80th anniversary in 2024. As Treasurer, the Board wants someone who is willing to play an active part in planning the strategy for the decades ahead and in determining how the resources available for this purpose are best deployed.

What are we looking for?

In addition to the responsibilities and personal qualities relevant to all Trustees, the Treasurer will demonstrate:

  • Commitment to the Society’s mission and purpose
  • Experience in the preparation and presentation of budgets and financial forecasts
  • Good strategic thinking, with an ability to balance opportunity and risk
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to bring financial information alive to non-finance specialists on the Board of Trustees
  • Readiness to liaise with the Society’s Independent Examiner and with the Society’s Investment Managers
  • Some knowledge of the particularities of charity finance

What difference will you make?

The role of Treasurer is vital for the work of the Board. As Treasurer you will help to ensure that we maintain and expand our grant-giving, and that this remains central to the vision for the future of the Society.

Before you apply

Please apply through Reach in the first instance, including a short note indicating why you are interested in the role, and mentioning your relevant experience.
