Are you passionate about conservation and can help a charity with big ambitions? By 2030, we want to substantially increase our impact. We need 3 new Trustees to drive the charity forward, supporting the CEO to deliver an ambitious strategy.

What will you be doing?

Since its formation in 2012, Helping Rhinos has had a significant impact in the world of rhino conservation, raising nearly £4m. But with poaching remaining a daily threat and the pressure on wild spaces increasing, rhino conservation has never been more important than it is now.

Poaching, lack of habitat and disengaged communities are the 3 key threats to sustainable populations of rhino on our planet. To address these threats, Helping Rhinos has gained international credibility for its work in the field, where it has provided significant support top partners across Africa.

PROTECT the wildlife

  • Ground anti-poaching patrols and surveillance for signs of poaching activity. Aerial patrols and surveillance through our Eyes in the Sky programme.
  • Rescue and rehabilitation of orphan rhinos in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa – the global poaching epicentre.
  • Use of ground-breaking technology to keep rhinos safe and reduce security costs.

PRESERVE their habitats

  • Expanding habitat and dropping fences.
  • Restore and rewild degraded wildlife habitat.
  • Rhino translocations to start new populations.

PROVIDE for people

  • Building of schools and community centres.
  • Education outreach programmes in local communities.
  • Improving livelihoods through conservation led community up-skilling initiatives.

But we know we need to do much more. This will require us to generate at least 10x our current level of income by 2030. We have a comprehensive strategy to do this and a key part is reshaping our Trustee Board with the recruitment of three new Trustees to join the existing team, enhancing the capability of the Board across 3 distinct areas

This Trustee - Fundraising will have experience in fundraising, specifically Trusts and Foundations as well as Corporate giving gained through working with other charities in an employed or Trustee role.

The new Trustees will be part of a new Board totalling 9 members. We’ll provide full support and induction so that we can start 2025 with a complete team to enable the delivery of our growth strategy.

What are we looking for?

We are keen to have a diverse group of Trustees with experience across a broad range of both commercial and voluntary sectors. Through the recruitment of three new Trustees, we are trying to “complete” the Trustee Board, filling in gaps so that we have a strong team with a comprehensive range of skills and experiences.

In order to support the CEO and his team, we require this Trustee to have experience in fundraising, specifically Trusts and Foundations as well as Corporate giving. They will be able to provide guidance to the CEO as well as oversight for the Board on the activities of the charity in this area.

What difference will you make?

Through its fiscal support, Helping Rhinos has contributed to:

  • The protection of the largest population of Eastern black rhino in the world.
  • Creation and running of the only rhino rescue and rehabilitation in KwaZulu-Natal.
  • The expansion of key rhino habitats that has enabled the introduction of black rhino to areas it has not inhabited for many decades.
  • The creation and operation of the Black Mambas, the world’s first all female anti-poaching unit.
  • The building of Early Development Centre schools' facilities to help improve the livelihoods of local communities.

But our Trustee Board is not just there to complete the formalities of governance, rather we want all Trustees to play an active role in agreeing, overseeing and supporting the delivery of a strategy that will more materially impact the future of rhinos on the planet. These iconic species are under significant threat and we aim to play a leading role in conserving them for future generations.

You’ll feel proud at the contribution you have made, through

  • The overall progress of the charity in delivering the strategy
  • The specific contribution you make through your area of shadow responsibility
  • The technical leadership and knowledge you bring through your profession and other experiences

And importantly we want you to feel part of a successful, inclusive team, really enjoying your interactions with other members of the Trustee Board, the CEO and his team.
