The British Dragonfly Society is the world’s largest organisation dedicated to the study and conservation of dragonflies. We are seeking a new trustee with financial experience to take on the role of Society Treasurer

What will you be doing?

We are looking for a Trustee with financial/accounting experience who can initially shadow and work alongside our current Treasurer with a view to taking on the role of BDS Treasurer in  November 2024.

Our treasurer works closely with our small staff team which includes a  Membership and Administration Officer who handles most day to day financial transactions.

The main role of the Treasurer is:

  • Overseeing the financial affairs of the Society including managing bank accounts, salaries, the payment of expenses and bills and the cash flow required to sustain operations.
  • Ensuring that the Society fulfils its obligations in terms of financial governance and related matters.
  • Participating in meetings and contribute to the Board of Trustees in their role of setting the strategy and policies of the organisation and in particular advising on financial and related matters
  • Representing the Society at appropriate events and meetings

What are we looking for?

  • Relevant experience of accounting/financial work
  • Experience in a management role
  • Some experience in the voluntary sector
  • An interest in conservation would be a benefit but not essential

What difference will you make?

As a Trustee of the British Dragonfly Society you will contribute to the effective delivery of good governance through active participation in Board discussions and decision making. You will play a key role in the leadership, financial, strategic and operational management of the organisation. It is critical that the role holder is aware of their responsibilities, and is willing, able, and committed, to fulfilling them. Because we have a small staff team, Trustees often take on additional tasks to support staff in the delivery of work.

Before you apply

Please upload an Expression of Interest and brief CV here, addressed to the attention of Tim Coleshaw, Chair of Trustees. Zoom interviews will be held after the closing date.
