Dr Bell's Family Centre has been supporting local vulnerable families since 2006. Due to the recent resignation of our Treasurer, we are looking for a trustee with relevant experience to join our board.
The Trustees are all jointly involved in governance and supporting the Chief Executive and staff team. We are particularly looking for someone with Finance experience however our main requirement is that the Trustees are committed to the Charity and its objectives. Like all third sector organisations we face funding uncertainty from time to time however our major lines of funding will see us through the next 24 months and we have already started to consider how we meet the ongoing and emerging needs of the community, to ensure future funding is secured proactively. We prepare management accounts in house and contract with an external accountant to independently review annual accounts.
We currently have a dedicated Board of 6 - with children/families/ health expert knowledge, plus strategy, change and HR expertise, however we do need a Treasurer on the Board.
Our ideal Trustee is someone who has knowledge of business and working in the third sector. Skills would encompass one or more of the following:
The trustees offer direct support to the Chief Executive and staff and it is important Trustees enjoy working with those from outside their normal field of practice (and possibly sector). Indeed we are not necessarily looking for finance professionals from within the children/families sector as someone with a more varied experience may well have a constructive and positive impact on our Board structure.
The Board of Trustees have a good working relationship with senior staff. The organisation is small and there is a high level of competence in the Centre's staff. We rely heavily on donations from charitable foundations; council and government funding who are increasingly looking to governing boards and management committees to ensure adequate policies and procedures are in place and followed. This requires a good deal of commitment from the Trustees to review and monitor management policies and procedures.
The demonstration of good financial management is vital to the continuation of the charity - not only in terms of applying for funding but also within OSCR and company law. We have been fortunate to have an excellent Treasurer on the board who is now leaving us. We are keen to ensure we maintain a high level of financial control.
The charity supports inclusion and equal opportunities.
