Trustees meet, formally, usually online, four times a year, plus our AGM. There are opportunities to meet trustees and volunteers throughout the year.

We are looking for an experienced accredited family mediator to help oversee the strategy, governance and growth of our family mediation service.

What will you be doing?

We are looking for an applicants who are team players with family mediation experience to join our team of 6 Trustees. There are also 7 staff working for the charity lead by our Director of Services.

Our trustees are hands on and get involved in business planning, service funding strategy and implementation and risk assessments. Our trustees are responsible for overseeing the governance of the charity. They have a duty to ensure compliance along with a duty of care and prudence. Training and mentoring can be provided.

The charity is looking to expand and needs to raise its profile and awareness with the public, potential funders and referrers. The bulk of our referrals come through the police, social services, borough councils and housing associations. However, we are increasingly getting self referrals through our website.

What are we looking for?

We looking for a Trustee with the skills and experience to advice and  assist our staff in growing our family mediation service. Experience of family mediation is essential. Strategic, business planning, marketing and governance skills and experience will be beneficial.

What difference will you make?

Mediation Surrey provides an important public service to the residents of Surrey. It is largely funded by the Police, local, borough and County Councils and Housing Associations because of the complementary role it plays in helping these organisations to attain their goals. Specifically, community mediation helps solve neighbourhood disputes and issues of anti-social behaviour before they can escalate into more serious problems. Intergenerational mediation helps improve relationships and communication, typically between a teenager and their parents, before it becomes an issue for social services. Support coaching builds resilience in victims of anti-social behaviour to help them cope with the situation. Our family mediation service helps couples work out arrangements for finances and children following separation.

The family service is a small but growing part of the charity. It is Mediation Surrey's only paid service. We hope the addition of a trustee with family mediation experience will help oversee it's development so that is can provide an excellent cost effective service to the residents of Surrey while making a financial contribution to the running of our unpaid services.
