Trustee required for Elmbirdge Mencap - a charity supporting those with learning disabilities.  We need someone to take the lead on Facilities Management, ensuring our lovely building remains fit for purpose.

What will you be doing?

Elmbridge Mencap is an independent registered charity, affiliated to Royal Mencap.  We are a local charity providing support to individuals with learning disabilities, by providing help for them and their families, dependants, and carers, and providing recreation facilities with the object of improving their quality of life. We manage Burview Hall, a purpose-built facility offering a large hall, two sensory rooms, a games room and accessible sensory garden and woodland. We run a Day Service for adults with learning disabilities (18+) 3 days a week.

Elmbridge Mencap has a board of Trustees who have overall legal responsibility for the charity. Trustees form the Executive Committee who meet once a month (usually Mondays) to conduct the business of the charity – this will include ensuring that the charity remains within the law in conducting its business, that money is spent wisely and for the benefit of the charity and making decisions in accordance with the charity’s aims and objectives.

We would welcome applications from those with a facilities management background, who could take the lead on managing the premises – ensuring contracts agreed give value for money, undertaking routine tasks where possible or arranging  suitable contractors, and generally ensuring effective management of the building and garden.

What are we looking for?

Facilities/Property management.  People and communication skills important.

Trustees should show an understanding and commitment to the aims and objectives of our charity and to the needs and aspirations of those within the learning disability community.

What difference will you make?

Our building, Buirview Hall, is one of very few in the area such a wide range of excellent facilities for those with learning disabilities.  Your efforts in ensuring that the building is maintained and improved to a high standard will benefit those with in our community who do not have as many opportunities in life as others.

Before you apply

Please apply with your CV.  The successful applicant will need to provide two references and undergo a DBS and identity check.
