We are a community hub in the beautiful Carnegie Library in Herne Hill.  We are looking for a trustee to join our existing board. This is an opportunity to join a relatively new charity.

What will you be doing?

We are a community trust created to run the Carnegie Building as a community hub.   A Lambeth library remains on the ground floor and we manage 5 remaining rooms.  They are rented to various groups (yoga, children's classes etc.) and activities (such as art exhibitions) as well as for private parties and events. One large room on the first floor is rented desk space.  Our aim is both to serve the community and to raise sufficient income to support the building. We have also held our own events: a successful summer fete and a Christmas market and concert is planned.  We are fund raising to install a cafe to be run by a local chairty.  We have a part time manager and will soon employ a fund raiser.  Our board of trustees consists of local people with various skills and experience.  We are looking for a trustee with particular experience in IT and digital marking to assist with our new website and social media.  However we hope the trustee will be interested in other aspects of running the building.  We meet monthly,  either by zoom or  preferably in the building when we can.   We create  subcomittees (marketing, cafe, Christmas market)  as and when we need them:

Whilst we operate under a licence from Lambeth Council , we are working towards a complete handover by Lambeth to the trust, with a long term lease.   We will be a community hub owned and operated by the community.

This is an opportunity for a trustee to become involved in a relatively new project with an exciting future.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a trustee with experience in digital and social media marketing and IT skills.   Our new manager will need support in updating our website and sending our social medial posts.  We need help with marketing strategy and social media marketing.  We need to raise our profile in the local community and beyond.  We hope the new trustee will also be interested in other aspects of running the building.

What difference will you make?

The trustee will fill a vital gap on our board of trustees.  You will help us with  the ongoing running of the building and its future success.

What's in it for the volunteer?

This is an opportunity to help run a historic and beautiful for the benefit of the community.  Our current board of 7 is a diverse and interesting group of local people.  We are flexible and open to new ideas.

Before you apply

We will ask you for a cv, references and attend an interview.
