Southside Young Leaders Academy (SYLA) is seeking exceptional individuals to join the Board of Trustees.

What will you be doing?

SYLA is seeking new Trustee Directors to join the Board of Trustees. This is an exciting chapter of SYLA’s growth journey, and the Trustees role plays a key role in shaping the strategic direction of the organisation and ensuring the effective governance and leadership of SYLA.

What are we looking for?

As the right candidate, you will have:

  • Held (or currently hold) a leadership position in a private, public, or third sector organisation.
  • A strong and visible commitment to supporting young people from underrepresented backgrounds to lead exceptional lives.
  • Demonstrated experience in a high performing operational, executive or non-executive team.
  • Strong networking capabilities that can be utilised for the benefit of the charity.
  • Legal eligibility to stand as a registered Company Director and Charity Trustee.
  • Previous experience as Trustee Director of a voluntary, private or public organisation is an advantage.

What difference will you make?

As Trustees, you will shape the strategic direction of our organisation and help drive our key objectives, enabling us to achieve our mission: to address social and educational inequalities by empowering Black African and African Caribbean boys to foster the skills, resilience, and leadership required to pursue positive life paths.

Before you apply

Please provide a CV and short covering letter detailing why you are interested in this role and your relevant experience.

We will look to contact shortlisted candidates with an invite for an informal Zoom chat with SYLA's Company Secretary in the first instance.
