Welcome to Reach Volunteering. We are a community and registered charity that connects people, skills and good causes.

To apply for this role, and any other on our platform, you need to be based in the UK, have at least three years of experience using the skills you wish to volunteer in a professional capacity or have lived experience (for trustee roles). Read more about our criteria.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and talented Trustee and Communications Lead to join our new Together With Kenya (UK) Board. It is a great time to join TWK, and the new exciting journey we are taking.

What will you be doing?

The person that we are seeking will be volunteer Trustee on the board of TWK (UK) responsible for the charity’s external communications with existing supporters, sponsors, current and potential future funders, and other stakeholders.

This will involve:

  •  Coordinating and maintaining a regular communications programme with all stakeholders using appropriate channels, e.g. social media, newsletters, and other relevant media.
  • Taking responsibility for the development, review and maintenance of fresh design and content on the charity’s website, appropriate to its target audience.
  • Plan and support content development with TWK colleagues to promote the charity and projects.
  • Keeping the board of Trustees up to date with the Communication plan, and working with other charity members or sub-teams, where required, to implement the plan.
  • Implementing an up-to-date charity Communications Policy.
  • Providing critical support/review on messaging to other charity board members (for example, on grant applications, charity statutory and impact reports).

Hours will vary (2-5 hrs per week) but are very flexible and involve working from home in your own time. Board meetings are held fortnightly by Google Meet.

What are we looking for?

Essential Skills

  • Ability to take a strategic view for an effective communications plan.
  • Ability to lead and deliver on communication initiatives, ensuring timely outputs
  • Excellent written communicator, with an ability to write informative, appropriate and engaging news stories.
  • Good IT skills, particularly on the use/management of social media platforms and website platforms
  • Highly organized
  • Good English
  • Good design skills would be an advantage

Personal qualities

  • Organised and self-managing.
  • Creativity
  • Good interpersonal communicator, team player, with an ability to provide constructive feedback

What difference will you make?

The charity (formerly Osiligi Charity Projects) has already provided an excellent primary and secondary education to hundreds of disadvantaged Maasai children in Kenya, who would otherwise not receive this. We have recently expanded our objectives to also provide educational support, training and skills after secondary education, to help this community succeed and improve their lives.

Through the repair of nearly 3000 broken hand pumps across Kenya, the charity has also restored clean water to nearly 1 million people.

Your involvement will help TWK to continue and expand its great work, and positively impact the lives of so many disadvantaged Kenyan people.
