The Charity Service is a grant-making charity and Donor Advised Fund Sponsor. We also run a grants programme providing funding to local charities. We are looking to appoint two new trustees, one with an accountancy/charity finance background. 

What will you be doing?

Our trustees play a vital role in making sure that The Charity Service achieves its charitable mission. You will work as part of our board of trustees to ensure that TCS has a clear strategy and monitor progress towards achieving our goals. You will also collectively also oversee our management and administration of the.

Duties, together with the board of trustees:

  • Establish and review The Charity Service’s vision, mission and goals.
  • Approve operational strategies and policies, and monitor and evaluate their implementation.
  • Oversee The Charity Service’s financial plans and budgets and monitor progress.
  • Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.
  • Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively.
  • Review and approve The Charity Service’s financial statements.
  • Provide support and challenge to The Charity Service’s staff in the exercise of their delegated authority and affairs.
  • Attend Board meetings and to contribute to discussions.
  • Use independent judgment, acting legally and in good faith to promote and protect The Charity Service’s interests, to the exclusion of their own personal and/or any third party interests.
  • Contribute to the broader promotion of The Charity Service’s objects, aims and reputation by applying skills, expertise, knowledge and contacts.

You will be expected to attend and contribute to board meetings. The board meets four times a year, usually in Manchester, although some meetings may be held online.

There may be occasions when you will need to be actively involved beyond Board meetings. For example, you may be asked to participate in committee meetings (we have a grants committee and investment committee) and/or provide advice to the charity’s staff on matters relating to your specialist areas of expertise.

What are we looking for?

The Charity Service is a UK-based grant-making charity and Donor Advised Fund Sponsor with decades of experience in the charitable sector. We support donors to understand and achieve their philanthropic goals. We also run our successful Greater Manchester Grants Programme which provides over £100,000 worth of funding to charities based in the Greater Manchester region.

We are looking to appoint two new trustees, one with an accountancy/ charity finance backgroundto join us in fulfilling our charitable mission.

You will have a passion for philanthropy, have great interpersonal/networking skills and an interest in working with the board to promote philanthropic giving and oversee our grant making programme. 

We are looking for people who will bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the role, and add diversity of thinking to our board.

You do not need previous governance experience as we will provide a full induction and training.

We would particularly welcome applications from qualified accountants and those experienced in reviewing charity accounts.
