Action for Carers is led by an established, experienced board of trustees who are responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity. We are looking for new Trustees to join our board.
Action for Carers Surrey has a vision ‘that every unpaid carer in Surrey is heard, valued and supported.’ We are a dedicated, passionate charity determined to make a difference to young and adult carers across Surrey. We are looking for new trustees to join the board.
About the trustee role
Trusteeships are unpaid voluntary roles and are non-executive, meaning that they are collectively responsible for setting strategy and ensuring governance and that the organisation holds to their vision and mission. They do not carry out the day-to-day work of the charity and they currently meet four times a year
We want to keep the needs of carers at the heart of our decision making and for this reason whilst by no means essential, experience of looking after a family member or friend, either as a child or an adult, past or present, is positively considered.
It is important that our trustee board to be diverse in terms of professional backgrounds and experiences and also representative of communities that we serve within Surrey. We welcome applications regardless of sex, gender, race, age, sexuality, belief or disability.
We are particularly looking for trustees that have experience working in social and or health care, charity governance, safeguarding, IT or data security. Most importantly we are looking for board members who want to make a difference and are able to commit and contribute and be able to focus on what we want to achieve.
Training, including governance training will be provided. Whilst this is a voluntary role, reasonable expenses such as travel expenses are paid.
The board of Trustees work closely the CEO and Senior team and within this partnership, members of the board are encouraged to support and be a critical friend.
As a trustee, you would be vital in sharing your knowledge and experience to both encourage and challenge the operational leadership of the charity.
To make an application, please submit your CV alongside a brief outline, no more than 3 paragraphs, describing why you have applied for the role.
