Chesham Youth Centre is a Youth and Community Hub in Chesham. The voluntary Board wants to expand and strengthen its skills in the areas of strategic development and support of Youth Services, digital marketing, PR and grant applications.
A multi-functional youth and community resource hosting public and privately provided activities for all ages, the youth centre has played a key role at the heart of the community for many years, and the Board is looking at its longer term future role. The Board holds the building on a long lease from Buckinghamshire Council, and in addition to having the largest hall in Chesham we have a coffee bar, pool room, an art space and offices within the main building, and a separate gym area which is primarily used by dance and fitness groups, and an enclosed hard surfaced sports court.
In a changing social, political and economic environment the Youth Centre needs to adapt and respond accordingly. The last of the original Trustees are now stepping away. We hope they will be replaced with new trustees who support and subscribe to the enduring ethos of the Board which is to support and develop opportunities for local young people. This would be with new ideas and a fresh vision as to the shape and direction of the offering we can bring to the community, but particularly the young people of the town and surrounding villages.
We would particularly welcome people with skills in strategic development, digital marketing and/or PR, however, knowledge or experience in HR, Funding/ Grant Applications, Youth services, IT would be very useful.
Whatever your skills or background, we would value your time and engagement. Whether this is likely to be your first trustee / Board Member role or you have a wide range and experience of being a Board member you will be very welcome.
Currently run by a voluntary Board, we are looking to expand and strengthen our Board of Trustees/ Directors. We are looking for people who are interested in the youth and community focussed aspect of our activities, to maintain and consolidate our financial stability, explore the needs and expand our youth services and provision through partnership and grant opportunities and to continue and establish our role as an important and inclusive local resource particularly for young people.
Your commitment as a Trustee/ Director involves attending Board meeting every 6-8 weeks to keep the Centre on track, and there are opportunities to get practically involved with the Youth Club and our other activities.
Please get in contact if you would like to visit the Chesham Youth Centre and meet the Chair for an informal chat.
