Visitors from Fifth Day

Welcome to Reach Volunteering. We are a community and registered charity that connects people, skills and good causes.

To apply for this role, and any other on our platform, you need to be based in the UK, have at least three years of experience using the skills you wish to volunteer in a professional capacity or have lived experience (for trustee roles). Read more about our criteria.

Wanted, trustees with a love of animals combined with a hard head for finance and business, to help us to consolidate our successes and to build strongly for the future.

What will you be doing?

The current Board is five-strong with a range of experience and skills. We are looking for a trustee with financial and /or business expertise, ideally to take on the role of Treasurer. We have made significant progress over recent years, developing our sites and expanding our income streams, e.g. by diversifying further into retail (with three off-site shops set up within the last year).

We seek more expert oversight and leadership of our accounting staff and procedures than we have at present. Someone with an analytical approach would be welcome, considering how best  we can manage and exploit  our current resources and those in the world beyond us, so that we make the best use possible of opportunities available for income-generation.

We are managing to balance income and expenditure despite the challenges met in the charity sector, but wish to put T.A.S on a firmer, more sustainable footing for the long term. We do not expect someone with a magic wand, though if you are a financial or business wizard, we will not turn you down!

What are we looking for?

We are looking for someone with experience in finance, accountancy and/or running a business where planning, control and management of the finance is a key aspect. Important is someone able to assess and to analyse our procedures with a view to making any improvements necessary. The ability to convey financial information in a clear way to members of the Board not versed in this field is important also, as decisions are made as a Board. Not all Board discussions relate to finance directly, so a willingness to engage with discussion of other aspects of running the charity matters too.

What difference will you make?

As treasurer, you will be at the forefront of continued development in measures to ensure our financial security and expansion. The direct benefit to future animals in need of our support and to the people who support them, will be invaluable: further improvements in our vet services, improved accommodation for animals, more customer friendly facilities and service for visitors to both sites; these are just some of the possibilities that we aim for and with focussed help, they are achievable.

Before you apply
