Trustees' meetings usually take place one evening a month from 7.30 - 9.00pm. Other input will be at your convenience.

Our small board of enthusiastic trustees is seeking to increase the range of skills and experiences we have manage and govern our local heritage charity.

What will you be doing?

Halstead 21st Century Group focuses on preserving, promoting and educating about Halstead's built and natural environment.  And we're looking forward to the time when we can meet the public again at events, hold talks and engage in more face-to-face projects. Thank goodness for our new website and social media on which we've relied so much this past year - the digital element of a project that was financed by a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant.

The second part of the Heritage Fund project focuses on the organisation's resilience and, by the end of November 2021, the result should be a long-lasting legacy.  The journey into a sustainable future is an even bigger adventure.  So we're looking for people who want to make a difference to step forward and contribute their skills and enthusiasm to our existing trustee talent pool and help to turn our plans and ideas into realities.  Here are a few thoughts:

  • Extra experience to help us set up a fundraising subcommittee (COVID-19 permitting)  would be invaluable
  • we want to identify new grant-funded projects for 2022
  • a digital strategy will help us to maintain the momentum provided by our new website
  • experience of business planning
  • a lead for the natural environment would be a real asset
  • communication and marketing skills are always valued
  • we lack graphic design skills despite recognising how important they are
  • planning or conservation experience would enhance our skills set
  • A trustee with some legal knowledge will help to set important boundaries

What are we looking for?

All of these would be lovely to have, but any of them would be highly desirable.

  • extra experience to help us set up a fundraising subcommittee (COVID-19 permitting) and would be invaluable
  • help to identify a new grant-funded project for 2022 and the skills to help manage it
  • a digital strategy would help us to maintain the momentum provided by our new website
  • we want to develop video skills and explore other online promotional and educational delivery methods
  • a lead to implement our newly created marketing strategy
  •  graphic design skills to add extra value to our communications
  • planning or conservation experience to add credibility to our home-grown knowledge and experience
  • a trustee with some legal knowledge would help to provide ongoing advice and support in several areas

Equally important will be your ability to communicate and meet face to face with other trustees in Halstead.

What difference will you make?

We're reinforcing the foundation blocks of our organisation so that we can better serve our key charitable purposes to preserve, promote and provide education about our local heritage. And you can be part of that process.

Our beneficiaries are the public in general. We're very keen to promote Halstead's historic and natural assets to local residents who may not be aware of what is so close to them as well as people who live outside the town to encourage visitors.

  • help to preserve our heritage
  • celebrate the town and its historic and natural assets
  • feel invested in the community
  • have a sense of pride in Halstead
  • know they have a voice to support  our valued environment
  • help to bring Halstead alive
  • want to know, explore, and visit Halstead

What's in it for the volunteer?

You will:

  • As a trustee of a CIO, you will make a positive impact on our charity's governance and sustainability
  • play a vital role in the evolution of small heritage-based charity
  • the work is varied, stimulating and challenging
  • be a valued member of an active, results-driven organisation
  • benefit from training opportunities (until 30.11.21)

A few more details

We ask that you meet other trustees as part of the trustee recruitment process.

Our Readiness & Resilience project ends on 30.11.2021. Training will be offered during this period.

  • Set in rolling countryside, Halstead is a community-spirited town, with a history that is reflected in the townscape. Yet these natural and built assets are not as well-known as they deserve to be...
