Kingston Mencap is a small independent charity based in the borough of Kingston upon Thames. We run clubs, activities and trips for adults with a learning disability and their families.

What will you be doing?

We need enthusiastic individuals who can give their time, knowledge and experience to join our board of trustees. We are looking for people with fundraising, premises management and strategic planning skills/experience but would consider applicants who demonstrate a commitment to the organisation and are willing to take an active role on the board.

Although affiliated to Royal Mencap, We raise our own funds through grants, donations, membership fees and fundraising.

We run clubs, activities and trips for young people and adults with a learning disability, their family carers and supporters. We provide information and advice workshops for the families.

 

Types of Activity:

  • Attend monthly trustee meetings and other subgroup meetings
  • Participate in Kingston Mencap activities 
  • Be an ambassador for the organisation.

 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ability to think creatively and strategically, and exercise good, independent judgement.
  • Effective communication skills and willingness to participate actively in discussion.
  • Numeracy to the extent required to understand Kingston Mencap accounts.
  • Empathy.

Kingston Mencap is a local charity which has been successfully running clubs, activities, trips and information workshops for people with a learning disability and their families. In a time of change we need new trustees to support us to develop exciting new services and grow to meet new challenges for our members.

This opportunity will give people the chance to work with a small, diverse and friendly group of people who all want to make a positive difference to the lives of people with learning disabilities and their families. This is a rewarding role as the trustee board enables Kingston Mencap to deliver many fun, meaningful and inclusive activities which result in everyone's participation. The charity has recently taken on the lease of a community centre therefore there are lots of exciting opportunities for new activities to explore.
