We Are Listening is a community-driven initiative dedicated to reducing social isolation and offering a listening ear to those who need it most. Funded to work with older adults aged 55+, our mission is simple: no one should feel alone.
We welcome trustees from a wide range of backgrounds and lived experiences. You do not need previous board experience — if you’re passionate about our mission, we’ll provide support to help you grow into the role.
Essential Qualities
Empathy and emotional intelligence – you understand the importance of listening and human connection.
Commitment to inclusion and confidentiality – you respect diverse experiences and maintain the privacy of those we serve.
Willingness to contribute – you're able to give your time, ideas, and energy to support our mission.
Skills and Experience (any of the following)
Strategic thinking – able to see the bigger picture and help shape our future direction.
Governance or leadership – experience in charity, education, health or community settings.
Finance or fundraising – especially if you’ve supported funding bids, budgeting, or income generation.
Marketing and communications – particularly with digital, outreach, or community engagement.
Volunteer management or service design – understanding how to support and develop volunteer-led services.

As a trustee of We Are Listening, you’ll play a vital role in shaping the future of our organisation. Your guidance and oversight will help us grow sustainably, reach more isolated older adults, and ensure our services remain safe, effective, and deeply person-centred.
You will:
Influence strategic decisions that guide our mission and long-term development.
Support good governance, ensuring we meet our charitable objectives and uphold our values.
Champion the voices of older adults, helping us stay responsive to the real needs of our communities.
Your involvement as a trustee will directly support the emotional wellbeing of people aged 55+ who often go unheard. With your insight and leadership, we’ll continue to create spaces where people feel genuinely listened to, valued, and less alone.
