We are a small, energetic arts charity working with grassroots communities in Co Durham and at a national level with partners; we need Trustees to join our Board to help us develop both strategically and creatively.
Northern Heartlands is an independent charity (constituted in 2019) and an Arts Council National Portfolio Organisation for 2022-2026. We are now reaching the time when we need more people involved in our governance.
To carry out your responsibilities as a trustee, you should:
We presently have four Trustees, and we are looking for up to another three. We are interested in people with a business background and/or arts, culture or heritage background. We want people to help us think differently and contribute to the organisation's development.
We would also like a Trustee whose life experience better reflects that of our beneficiaries. Our staff are very much from the communities across south & west Durham in which we work and we would value a Trustee who could also bring that ‘lived experience’ of those communities to our Board.
We are committed to Diversity Equity and Inclusion for our staff, volunteers, and beneficiaries. We will be seeking to increase the diversity of our Board to ensure we have a range of views and experiences from a more diverse range of Trustees.
Our vision is for strong, connected, and healthy local communities, where people are actively involved in shaping their lives and their environment.
We are ambitious – we don’t just deliver arts projects, we also have a strategic dimension to our work, and we want to be a national leader in the work that we do.
As a Trustee
We also encourage our Trustees to be actively involved in our project delivery by taking part in events and activities either as part of the event team or as a participant.
We would like to know why they are interested in our organisation, what experience they have of governance and, if possible, where they are based. Application is by email but we would welcome a telephone conversation with our Chair or Director (CEO) in the first instance.
