What will you be doing?

Cheltenham Sea Cadets, based on Alstone Lane, is currently looking for enthusiastic and dedicated trustees to join its Unit Management Team (UMT). Cheltenham Sea Cadets is a long-established sea cadet unit that has provided life-changing opportunities for many young people. We currently have 30 cadets who come from all over the Cheltenham area. 

Sea Cadets is the UK’s leading maritime charity and provides a head start in life for young people through nautical adventure and fun. Our volunteers work, both directly with young people and behind the scenes, to help make a positive difference to teenagers who are often struggling in today’s world and their communities.

We are currently looking for enthusiastic volunteers that can support with the governance of a small local charity. There are free training courses available for you to develop new skills, boost your CV and support you in this role. These tasks can also be divided between volunteers, so why not come along with a friend and share the experience?

What are we looking for?

We are looking for volunteers with a practical management skills as well as an understanding of relevant governance and compliance. Having the right attitude and a passion for improving the lives of young people are important things too! If you think the person specification below sounds like you, then please get in touch:

  • Ability to communicate with people from all walks of life at all levels, as effective communication with other key stakeholders including Sea Cadet personnel, other facility users and charity groups will be important 

What difference will you make?

The tasks of a trustee include but are not limited to the following: 

• Support the UMT chair to manage a safe, effective, and successful sea cadet unit.

• Support the UMT in ensuring all unit activities and matters comply with appropriate regulations and Marine Society and Sea Cadet (MSSC) policies.

• Support the unit’s fundraising efforts.

• Ensuring that all young people and instructors at the unit are engaged in fun and safe activities.

• Attend a regular UMT meeting – usually one hour, monthly or bi-monthly, on a weekday evening.
