Our Board meets 6 times a year, on Monday evenings. Other meetings may take place during office hours. Treasurer work may take up to 1-2 hours/wk.

Welcome to Reach Volunteering. We are a community and registered charity that connects people, skills and good causes.

To apply for this role, and any other on our platform, you need to be based in the UK, have at least three years of experience using the skills you wish to volunteer in a professional capacity or have lived experience (for trustee roles). Read more about our criteria.

We're looking for a finance professional to join our Board to provide general financial direction to our charity with an income of c£200,000 and help us improve our long-term sustainability.

What will you be doing?

Working closely with the Chair and the CEO, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Chairing the Board's Finance sub-committee and leading on the development of the charity's financial strategy
  • Keeping the Board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities 
  • Guiding and advising the Board in the approval of budgets, accounts and financial statements
  • Reviewing the quarterly and year end accounts prepared by our volunteer Financial Accountant
  • Presenting the year end accounts at the Annual General Meeting
  • Ensuring that proper financial procedures and controls are in place to safeguard the charity's resources
  • Ensuring that the charity has appropriate reserves and investment policies

What are we looking for?

We're looking for a finance professional, ideally with knowledge or experience of charity finances, fundraising and pension schemes. You'll also need to be familiar with Xero accounting systems and spreadsheets.

Other skills you'll need to demonstrate include:

  • the ability to analyse proposals and examine their financial consequences
  • the ability to explain complex financial information in an accessible way
  • the ability to exercise good independent judgment and if necessary to make difficult recommendations
  • working effectively as part of a team
  • the ability to work to timetables and deadlines
  • be willing to learn about and follow the Citizens Advice aims, principles and policies, including confidentiality and data protection

What difference will you make?

You will be key to securing the financial health and viability of the charity now and into the future. Through your work you will be helping Citizens Advice Esher & District to retain its position as the main provider of free, independent and confidential advice to the communities of east Elmbridge. Your professional expertise will help ensure that the charity has the funds in place to deliver new advice opportunities to the local community.

Following an initial discussion with our Chair, you may be invited to attend a more formal interview with a small panel of our Trustees and to observe a Board meeting. Two references will be taken up.
