Kangaroos, the only non-specialist activity provider for children and adults with extreme needs in Mid-Sussex runs over 450 sessions a year. This is an exciting time to be joining us to help shape our future strategy.

What will you be doing?

The treasurer will oversee the monitoring of the organisation’s finances on behalf of the whole board of trustees, to report regularly on them to the board, and to make sure that money and property are properly managed. This includes:

  • Provide financial leadership to the board of trustees, offering insights and recommendations on financial planning, budgeting, and investment decisions
  • Oversee the development and implementation of the charity's financial policies, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and best practices
  • Present financial reports at board meetings, providing clear and concise updates on the charity's financial performance and projections. This would include working with the Finance Director and CEO to prepare an annual budget and monthly management accounts
  • Monitor and assess the charity's financial health, identifying risks and opportunities and recommending appropriate actions. Ensure restricted funds are recorded and monitored appropriately and grant terms are complied with
  • Ensure transparency and accountability in financial matters, promoting ethical practices and adherence to financial policies 
  • Prepare annual financial statements in accordance with Charity Commission regulations, and ensure timely completion of annual review
  • Oversee the charity’s financial risk-management process and report financial health to the board of trustees at regular intervals
  • Act as a counter signatory for online banking 
  • Advise on the financial implications of the charity’s strategic plans
  • Keep the chair of the finance and resources committee fully appraised of all financial matters

  • Keep abreast of financial trends, legal requirements, and best practices in the charity sector (SORP guidelines), sharing relevant insights

What are we looking for?

Skills and Experience required:

  • Accountancy qualification and practice
  • Experience of working on boards or charity finance experience
  • Interest in disability sector and work of Kangaroos
  • Ability to commit to work of trustee of small charity
  • Availability to commit  4-5 hours per month
