The Treasurer will need to attend a Trustee meeting once a month (around 2 hours), present accounts and financial statements and attend annual AGM.

Jigsaw (Bury) comprises of Jigsaw and Jigsaw Link and aims to promote fun, freedom and independence for disabled people, prevent social isolation, improve members self-esteem and increase community integration.

What will you be doing?

Dealing with all of the charity’s financial matters and upholding good practice, reporting to the trustees each month, and informing them of the current state of the organisation’s finances. While the treasurer will oversee the financial works of the charity the board as a whole they will be held accountable for the charity’s overall financial state.

 

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • To oversee and present accounts and financial statements to the board of trustees.
  • To ensure that proper accounts and records are kept.
  • Where necessary, to produce and implement new financial control policies.
  • To discuss individual financial matters with the appropriate staff member when required.
  • To communicate with the charity’s independent examiners.
  • To monitor and advise on the financial sustainability of the charity.
  • To advise on the financial implications of strategic planning.
  • To act as a counter-signatory on cheques or requests for funds.
  • To contribute to the financial strategy of the organisation.           

To take the lead on preparing the financial aspects of the Annual Accounts and present this at the Annual General Meeting (AGM).      

Fulfilling this role will entail preparation of monthly financial reports, annual budgets and year end accounts in addition to helping the organisation to work towards a strategic vision and achieve its aims of promoting fun, freedom and independence for disabled people.

  • To ensure that the charity pursues its objectives as defined in its governing document (e.g. the promotion of any charitable purpose for the benefit of the community in the Bury Metropolitan area)
  •  To maintain proper financial control and ensure that Jigsaw Bury applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects, i.e. the charity must not spend money on activities that are not included in its objects, no matter how worthwhile or charitable those activities are

What's in it for the volunteer?

Jigsaw aims to support our members (aged over 13) to enjoy an active social life, to reach their sporting potential and to maintain a healthy lifestyle, running sports and social activities. Jigsaw Link provides a one-to-one befriending service for people over 50 who are disabled or have an age related condition, a weekly luncheon club and social outings throughout the year, as well as an Older People’s Active Living Programme and a telephone befriending service. Volunteers would be doing a worthwhile job, meeting new people and making a positive difference to people's lives. All travel and out of pocket expenses are also reimbursed.

If successful, subject to satisfactory DBS check, you will be eligible to join the next meeting of Trustees following appointment.
