We are an extraordinary, small charity that punches above its weight. We are seeking an Honorary Treasurer. Come and join us!

What will you be doing?

Due to a recent change in personal circumstances, ABCD is seeking an Honorary Treasurer.   We are a small charity, with an annual income stream of approximately £100,000 and a database of around 1,000 supporters.    The role of honorary treasurer is home-based and part time with annually four meetings of the Trustees held online or in London when circumstances permit. Here is a brief description of the key elements of the role:

Bank Accounts

  • To manage, maintain and oversee the bank accounts that ABCD operates.   
  • To manage the key cash and financial processes and controls, in close liaison with the Charity’s Chair, Deputy Chair, Chair of Finance, Field Manager and Administrator.
  • To prepare and submit Gift Aid claims on a regular basis.

Management Accounts

  • To produce regular Income and loss, balance sheet and cash flow statements.
  • To report to the Finance Trustee and attends Trustee meetings throughout the year.
  • To support the charity by providing further detail on the Charity’s finances as required by trustees and the administrator on an adhoc basis.

Financial Reporting & Regulatory

  • To prepare charity’s annual financial report and accounts for review by the charity’s independent examiner, answer any questions they may have and support the examination on a timely basis.
  • To support the review and approval of the Board of Trustees and submit to the Charity Commission and Companies House.
  • To ensure that the Charity meets its regulatory obligations in relation to all aspects of finance.

We are looking for a dynamic and motivated individual to work from home with the availability to attend our quarterly Trustee Meetings, and to attend in person in central London when social health regulations permit.   Attention to detail is a ‘must’, along with a thorough understanding of finance and of charity accounting.  An innate ability as a team player is also essential. The successful candidate must be sympathetic to the work we do and be prepared to act closely with our finance committee and other Trustees. Ideally the candidate will be an accountant qualified or qualified by experience, but this is not essential.

Our current Honorary Treasurer has been with our charity for a number of years and has kept our finances in order with great integrity. Their successor will be a new partner in our team, joining us to ensure that proper accounts continue to be kept. They will help set our financial policies, processes and controls for the future.
