Welcome to Reach Volunteering. We are a community and registered charity that connects people, skills and good causes.

To apply for this role, and any other on our platform, you need to be based in the UK, have at least three years of experience using the skills you wish to volunteer in a professional capacity or have lived experience (for trustee roles). Read more about our criteria.

We work to engage communities in making better places - together. As the charity enters an exciting new chapter, we are seeking a new board trustee to act as our treasurer.

What will you be doing?

BACKGROUND

After a challenging period, and with a new CEO, Civic Voice is rapidly fixing its foundations and beginning to work on an exciting new vision for 'making better places - together', re-engaging with local civic societies and communities across England.

We need a new treasurer to work with our CEO and board, to establish robust and accountable financial processes, build financial resilience, and develop a long term financial plan. This will underpin our ambition to see hundreds of local, volunteer-led civic societies in England grow in strength and impact.

Our new treasurer will: -

  • understand the importance of strong board oversight, good governance and reporting, and of asking the right questions to reduce risk and widen opportunities for growth
  • be keen to support our new CEO, team and board in developing a robust financial strategy to build resilience and enable growth
  • be confident in ensuring that the board have good advice and clear information on which to base financial decisions
  • be supportive of Civic Voice impact in community engagement, planning and the built environment, but more importantly have enthusiasm for and a strong skill set in building a solid financial foundation for the success of the charity

What are we looking for?

Accountancy/auditing and bookkeeping

Experience and understanding of effective financial processes including day to day accounting, preparation of accounts and independent examination, so that they can ensure these processes are effective at Civic Voice, and that the board are kept well informed and advised.

Financial management

Experience and understanding of how to accurately monitor the charity's financial administration, assess and manage financial risk, and report regularly to the board of trustees on the organisation's financial health.

Governance

To understand the duties of treasurer and trustees for financial oversight, and be able to support board skills and awareness development in financial responsibilities and due process.

Business advice/analysis

Ideally, to have the experience and insight to advise the board and CEO on financial resilience, risk, and income generating opportunities.

What difference will you make?

Too often, the built environment fails to take into account the real needs of a community, its families, individuals and the natural ecosystems systems on which society depends for survival. As the national body for locally-led civic societies in England, Civic Voice seeks to support their impact and growth, building local pride, promoting better design, and growing community engagement and involvement, especially from under-represented sectors. On behalf of its members, Civic Voice also seeks to engage decision-makers at regional and national level in pursuit of better places.

Robust and well managed finances are the foundation of our success as an organisation, without which nothing can succeed. An effective treasurer is essential to our future impact.
