We are looking for an experienced Treasurer to oversee our finances and help Glasgow Tool Library take the next step in its future development, making Glasgow a fairer and more sustainable place to live.

What will you be doing?

Glasgow Tool Library is a community-led charity that aims to radically change the way we access and manage resources. Our mission is to build a sustainable and inclusive alternative to consumerism that promotes community wellbeing and empowerment. The service works like a regular library, but instead of books, people can access an extensive selection of tools and equipment for their homes, gardens, hobbies and adventures.

Our Board of Trustees ensures that the organisation fulfills all its governance and legal requirements and operates efficiently. It maintains an overview of policy and strategic direction rather than being involved in day-to-day operations.  We are now looking for an experienced Treasurer to work closely with the other Trustees to ensure that the charity's finances are managed effectively and efficiently and help ensure our mission is fulfilled.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the financial management of the charity, including budgeting, financial reporting, and cash flow management
  • Ensure that the charity's financial policies and procedures follow legal and regulatory requirements
  • Work with the board to develop and implement financial and fund-raising strategies that support the charity's mission and goals
  • Monitor the charity's financial performance and provide regular updates and recommendations to the board
  • Ensure that the charity's financial records are accurate and up to date
  • Work with OSCR on matters relating to Finance
  • Provide guidance and support to the board on financial matters
  • Carry out bookkeeping responsibilities and liaise with payroll provider (GCVS)

What are we looking for?

  • Experience in financial management / accounting, preferably in the third sector
  • Knowledge of the funding landscape on Scotland
  • Experience in budgeting, financial reporting and cash flow management
  • Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements for charities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Commitment to the charity's mission and values
  • GTL uses Xero accounting software, so knowledge of this would be an advantage

What difference will you make?

Glasgow Tool Library has recently gone through a period of transition and growth and we are looking for people with the experience and commitment to help us take the next stags in our development.

We have exciting plans to grow our service and increase our impact, but we need the right combination of people who can help us achieve this. An experienced Treasurer is a vital role that will help improve our financial management, reprint and projections. This will enable us to have greater control of our future plans, so that we can continue to save money, reduce waste, and promote a circular economy in Glasgow.
