Trauma Aid UK (TAUK) is a UK charity (est. 2009) dedicated to providing training and education in trauma treatment to mental health professionals in underserved countries (currently Bosnia and the Middle East)

What will you be doing?

We are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented individual with expertise in finance and accounting to serve as the Treasurer and key member of the Trustee board. This role supports the financial stability, integrity and strategic direction of the charity. 

Key Responsibilities 

Financial Management: Pay invoices and expenses, deposit cheques, monitor bank account balances, and transfer funds as needed.

Financial Reporting: Prepare annual accounts and liaise with an auditor if the charity’s annual income exceeds £25,000.

Gift Aid Claims: Submit Gift Aid claims to HMRC.

Advisory Role: Provide financial advice to the Board on the implications of decisions and initiatives especially with reference to budgeting, financial planning and managing financial risk.

Compliance: Complete the annual online return to the Charity Commission, detailing TAUKs income, expenditure and trustee information.

Record Keeping: Collect and store receipts and manage all financial records for auditing and reporting purposes

Time commitment 

About 9 meetings a year (every 5 weeks minus holidays periods)

About 2-4 hours weekly. Working from home but occasional in person meeting, usually London

You will bring a commitment to the TAUK’s mission, sensitivity to international beneficiaries from diverse backgrounds and a passion to see the charity succeed and grow.

  • Experience: A qualified UK accountant or background in finance with experience in the charity or not for profit sector and at least 3 years of experience.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail and identifying issues.
  • Communication: Ability to clearly present financial information to the Board of Trustees and non-financial stakeholders and in a timely manner as required.
  • Integrity: A commitment to transparency and ethical financial management.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with UK charity regulations. A strong understanding of charity financial reporting standards, tax regulations (including VAT and Gift Aid), and the UK Charity Commission’s requirements. 
  • Collaborative: Ability to work effectively with other trustees, training partners and volunteers.

As Trauma Aid UK is diversifying its funding stream this is an important role as  we reach out to national and international grant funders, offer sale of ‘professional’ merchandise and workshops to international colleagues. 

Our current Board of Trustees is expanding and bring a wealth of knowledge in mental health. The role of treasurer / trustee will compliment our dedicated and passionate team as we move forward in our 5 year plan to be the trusted place for PTSD intervention training in the countries we serve.  

The Treasurer will help us to grow whereby the demand for our specialist services is financially valued so that we can confidently grow and sustain our activities long term.
