Treasurer for a Teddington charity running a Social Centre for older people which will soon become a Community Centre providing services and facilities for a very wide range of age groups
A word about us. We run and manage Elleray Hall,a warm, welcoming place where adults come to meet and make friends. While they are here, they can join a number of exercise classes to help them keep fit and healthy and participate in a range of activities, events and celebrations to keep them entertained. All in all, it's a real social lifeline that enhances the lives of many older residents living in and around Teddington.
The centre’s main funding is administered by Richmond AgeUK via a contract with Richmond Council, with further contributions from our own activities and local charities who fund some staff salaries.
An exciting development in 2025 In the summer of 2025 we are moving into brand new purpose built premises just across the way from our current site. Once we are there, we will be expanding our range of services for older people and introduce many new activities, classes and events that will appeal to a very broad section of the local community.
We will then be running a wonderful new centre – one that will become a valuable community asset that will have something to offer just about everybody who lives in the area. Exciting times are just around the corner!
The Treasurer Role We have a small, dedicated staff team led by a manager who report to the Board of Trustees. At the moment we have 6 trustees, with diverse areas of expertise. We are currently looking to recruit a new Treasurer, ideally with a background in accountancy or financial management. The role includes all the normal Treasurer functions - maintaining our accounts, preparing end of year accounts and liaising with our auditors, advising the Board of trustees of the financial implications of any action under consideration etc. In addition, as a Trustee, we would expect you to play a part in the general management of the charity.
Most of the work can be done in your own time, but it is important that our Treasurer attends our Management Meetings, held on alternate months, usually on a Tuesday afternoon.
The role of the Treasurer is of great importance, especially after we transition to new premises and expand our services and extend the the range of people who use and hire facilities at the centre. It is these hirers who will create a significant proportion of the revenues needed to run the Centre. The Treasurer will be highly influential in advising us of the budgetary implications of any new activities or partnerships into which we may wish to enter.
We tend to give out an application form either following an initial informal discussion or once a position has been offered and accepted, (subject to satisfactory references!)
