About Us

Thirsk Youth Club is a safe space for vulnerable young people, many with unstable family lives. 3 sessions run every week for ages 9-11;12-13; and 14+ in a community hall.

What will you be doing?

The treasurer's role

TYC is looking for a qualified accountant to join our Trustees, oversee its financial management, and be jointly responsible for its governance.  This opportunity comes as our current Treasurer steps down for personal reasons

Trustees meet once a month (2nd Thursday of the month, in the evening) on Teams. Therefore this role is open to someone in any location although we hope there will be opportunity to meet in person occasionally.

Current Challenges

  • There is growing demand for more sessions to accommodate the needs of our youth
  • The need for additional support, particularly mental health and other challenges faced by today’s young people, is increasing
  • The community hall’s availability constraints hinder our capacity to introduce new initiatives or extend our services to families due to space limitations.

Goals

  • We have found a property that is perfect for our needs.
  • We are having productive conversations with North Yorkshire Council and National Lottery - Reaching Communities regarding funding. We have sought advice from Community First Yorkshire regarding business planning and have been allocated a Development Officer.

New Treasurer's role

The treasurer will be joining the board at an exciting time in the growth and development of TYC. We would want them to continue ensuring proper systems are in place for budgeting, financial control and reporting; keeping all trustees informed about the state of the organisation’s finances and ensuring financial reports to the trustees are comprehensible and properly discussed.

Duties fulfilled by our current Treasurer:

  • Monthly budget and forecasts
  • Monthly bank reconciliation & cashflows
  • HMRC gift aid submissions
  • Payment of expenses, invoices
  • Annual Charity accounts
  • Annual Corporate tax return
  • Attend trustee meeting

What are we looking for?

  • ACCA/CIMA/ACA qualified
  • Financial experience

What difference will you make?

Your impact

You will play a vital part in sustaining and developing a small charity that is making a significant difference to young lives. As a trustee, you will have a real opportunity to offer your skill set to help the strategic progression of TYC.

Before you apply

Please apply through REACH and provide a cover letter detailing why you are interested in this role and your relevant experience and qualifications. Thank you,
