Transition Stroud is a network for people working towards a locally-based, low carbon lifestyle. We are seeking a treasurer to take over the book-keeping and statutory duties and help us inspire action for a sustainable future.

What will you be doing?

Key relationships

Work with the Transition Stroud Council, Transition Stroud co-ordinator, media co-ordinator, Action Group convenors and local partners.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Carrying out financial administration and bookkeeping duties including managing bank accounts, petty cash and paypal account; payment of invoices and expenses; managing and paying in cash donations.
  • Acting as signatory on cheques, online banking access and important funding applications.
  • Keeping proper accounting records, including budget preparation and allocation of funds to ring fenced projects and ensuring that financial resources are strategically spent.
  • Preparing and presenting budgets, internal accounts, finance reports and annual statements to the Council of directors.
  • Networking and liaising as necessary to carry out duties.
  • Liaising with external independent examiner to report on annual accounts and other professional advisors as necessary.
  • Providing guidance and advice to affiliated groups such as CANs in how to manage and keep their own records.

Minimum time commitment

  • The treasurer is expected to attend Director meetings, currently on Mondays between 7:30 and 9:30 pm every 6 weeks.
  • In addition, you will be expected to attend and present at TS’s AGM in October or November each year.
  • We estimate the average minimum time will be four-six hours per month, but more could be required at certain times

What are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who wants to support our communities to move to a more sustainable future.You must be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Hold a formal accountancy qualification or have demonstrable experience as a treasurer/book-keeper
  • Knowledge of charity accounting and reporting requirements e.g. restricted vs unrestricted funds
  • Ability to produce accurate accounts, budgets and reports for different audiences
  • Ability to do some financial analysis, to identify trends and answer queries.
  • Ability to provide financial outputs to support fundraising and donor management.

What difference will you make?

IN the near futrue we are planning to help expand the growth of Climate Action Networks, work with partners within Stroud Town to develop local projects and work with Stroud District Council as they roll out their Carbon Neutral 2030 Strategy, and relevant other agencies and organisations active within Stroud District.

With the government starting to take the climate emergency more seriously and the COP26 climate conference next year, this is a key time for Transition Stroud.

Interviews will be held on Zoom or as appropriate in the week commencing 11th January. Ideally the successful candidate will be able to have a hand-over and take on duties by the end of January.
