We are a small, not-for-profit village pre-school looking for a new Treasurer to sit on our Management Committee, to oversee the budget and ensure performance and compliance.

What will you be doing?

Along with the Chairperson and Secretary, the Treasurer sits on the Management Committee and runs the pre-school. The Management Committee is supported by a Fundraising and Social Committee, also made up of volunteers.

The role of the Treasurer is to:

  • Ensure the charity meets its charitable objects and commitments
  • Work with the Committee to ensure financial good health and prudence
  • Encourage and support fundraising
  • Monitor income and expenditure
  • Produce monthly management accounts
  • Produce financial year end accounts
  • Oversee the payment of salaries via the salaried Administrator
  • Complete charity commission annual return
  • Occasional banking (cash/cheques)

Time commitment per month:

  • 1 evening Committee meeting in Redbourn (every 6 weeks, usually 2 hours)
  • Ad-hoc time on fundraising and other financial matters (3-6 hours)

The Treasurer will be supported by a Committee Chair and a Secretary. The Pre-School also employs a part time Administrator.  The Treasurer will liaise closely with the Chair. There will be a full induction and hand-over from the existing Treasurer who will be on-hand to provide ad-hoc guidance if required.

All Trustees are expected to complete a DBS check and sign up to the Charity Commission rules and regulations for Charity Trustees.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a volunteer with a background in finance who can support Redbourn Pre-School to ensure it is compliant,well-run and meets its charitable objectives. An interest in, or knowledge of, early years education would be particularly useful but is not essential. All Trustees have to sign up to a DBS check.

What difference will you make?

The Management Committee helps to ensure performance and compliance of the Pre-School and oversees the budget; this is a legal requirement and without it we would simply not be able to continue to practice.

What's in it for the volunteer?

We are a small, friendly team who work hard to provide good quality childcare and education at affordable prices to the local community, offering a safe and happy environment for our children, with the emphasis on fun!
