Opportunity description

BSHA is a voluntary organisation and registered charity operating a small community association in Bedhampton. We are looking for a volunteer to join us as Treasurer.

The role

  • To ensure that the Bedhampton Social Hall Association complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
  • To ensure that the organisation pursues its objects as defined in its Constitution.
  • To ensure the Association applies its resources explicitly in pursuance of its objects.
  • To contribute actively to the Executive committee (trustees) and General committee roles in giving firm strategic direction to the Association, setting overall policy, defining goals, setting targets and evaluating performance.
  • To safeguard the good name and values of the Bedhampton Social Hall Association.
  • To ensure the effective and efficient administration of the Association.
  • To ensure the financial stability of the Association.
  • To protect and manage the property of the charity and to ensure the proper investment of the charity’s funds.
  • Overseeing, approving and presenting budgets, accounts and financial statements to committees and the Annual General Meeting.
  • Ensuring that the Association has an appropriate reserves policy
  • Liaising with paid staff and volunteers about financial matters
  • Ensuring the Associations compliance with legislation
  • Ensuring that equipment and assets are properly maintained and insured
  • Ensuring that the accounts are prepared and disclosed in the form required by funders and statutory bodies (eg The Charity Commission)
  • Ensuring that the accounts are scrutinised in the manner required (independent examination or audit) and any recommendations are implemented
  • Keeping the trustees informed about financial duties and responsibilities
  • Contributing to the fund raising strategy of the Association
  • Sitting on appraisal, recruitment and disciplinary panels as required Liaison with the Secretary/Volunteer
  • Support Manager regarding the collection of membership subscriptions and affiliation fees

  • Financial qualifications and experience
  • Some experience of charity finance, fundraising and pension schemes
  • The skills to analyse proposals and examine their financial consequences
  • Preparedness to make unpopular recommendations to the committees
  • Willingness to be available to staff for advice and enquiries on an ad hoc basis

Time commitment

Mostly during office hours
