Welcome to Reach Volunteering. We are a community and registered charity that connects people, skills and good causes.

To apply for this role, and any other on our platform, you need to be based in the UK, have at least three years of experience using the skills you wish to volunteer in a professional capacity or have lived experience (for trustee roles). Read more about our criteria.

We are looking to replace our wonderful Treasurer who has managed our accounts and expenses for a number of years.

What will you be doing?

The charity is made up of a friendly group of people who are linked by their love of gardens and gardening and their desire to implement the charity objectives: to promote the education of the public, on matters connected with the arts and sciences which relate to garden land and secondly, to preserve enhance and re-create for the education and enjoyment of the public whatever garden land may exist or have existed in and around Wiltshire.

The charity raises funds through membership and events such as visiting gardens in and around Wiltshire and it also has been given a small legacy which has been invested in Charity Official Investment Funds units all of which provides funds which allow the officers of the charity to implement the objectives of the charity by giving to suitable charitable good causes.

There is no requirement for the treasurer to attend events of the charity but they are expected to attend Council meetings of the charity's trustees and other key members of the team, reporting to Council on the charity's financial position, dealing with expenses from team members and donations to gardening related good causes and reporting to members at the charity's AGM. As the Wiltshire Gardens Trust is a registered charity the Treasurer is responsible for statutory reporting to the Charity Commission and for arranging for the accounts to be audited by the charity accountants.

While it is nice to meet up as a team at Council meetings and events, most of the work of the charity is done remotely from home by the charity's trustees and officers.

What are we looking for?

Experience in Accounting/Auditing and Bookkeeping essential. The ability to communicate with other members of the team and to question any anomalous or odd looking requests to avoid the charity being scammed.

What difference will you make?

The Treasurer is the guardian of the charity's funds and investments. Being aware of potential threats and scams is an important part of this role and the treasurer is the gatekeeper of distributions from the charity. Being a member of Council they will be able to feed their views on important subjects such as financial security and governance and any other views they may have on developing the charity.
