Welcome to Reach Volunteering. We are a community and registered charity that connects people, skills and good causes.

To apply for this role, and any other on our platform, you need to be based in the UK, have at least three years of experience using the skills you wish to volunteer in a professional capacity or have lived experience (for trustee roles). Read more about our criteria.

Every refugee should be given the support to come to terms with the loss they have experienced and to rebuild their life in the UK. We help to overcome practical barriers and give opportunities to experience joy and hope for their future.

What will you be doing?

We are looking for a Treasurer who will advise on the financial implications of Salusbury World's strategic plan, including overseeing the charity’s financial risk-management process, maintaining an overview of Salusbury World’s financial affairs and ensuring that effective and appropriate financial measures, controls and procedures are put in place and reports to the Board at regular intervals about the financial health of the organisation.  You must also have a passion for our cause.

In 2023, we faced significant challenges. we made some difficult decisions to navigate through turbulent times. With a reduction in funding, we made the hard decision to cut some of our services and make some staff redundant. We are now committed to rebuilding and pursuing our mission. We require experienced trustees who are up for a challenge, and can help guide us through this crucial phase of growth and development.

What are we looking for?

What we are looking for...

  • A finance professional. Ideally with board level experience and knowledge of charity finance. Alternatively, an enthusiasm to learn, drawing from sound commercial experience and an understanding of SMEs.
  • A strategic thinker with an ability to balance risk and opportunity.
  • Ability to exercise good independent judgement and if necessary to make difficult or unpopular recommendations.
  • Clear communicator with the ability to bring the financial information alive to non-finance specialists.
  • Willing to play an active role in areas such as forecasting, setting budgets, liaising with auditors

We are looking for people willing to bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the role, and who will broaden the diversity of thinking and expertise on our board.

You should have a clear understanding of the legal duties of Trusteeship and experience working at a strategic governance level. Previous Board experience would be an advantage. We’re open to applications from anyone with relevant senior level experience, but we are particularly interested in hearing from those with the following experience:

  • Governance in a small charity
  • Finance Director,
  • Small charity or business leader

Personal skills and qualities

  • Willingness and ability to understand and accept their responsibilities and liabilities as trustees.
  • An understanding of charity governance and the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of a Trustee.
  • Relevant and demonstrable experience in the voluntary sector or transferrable skills from the public or private sector.
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically, exercise good, independent judgement and work effectively as a board member.
  • Effective communication skills and willingness to participate actively in discussion.
  • A strong personal commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Enthusiasm for our vision and mission.
  • Willingness to lead according to our values.

What difference will you make?

The role of Treasurer is crucial - not only do we need someone to keep us on track financially and keep us viable, but even more significantly, we are looking for someone to help us formulate our vision for the future.

Before you apply

Please provide your CV and cover letter detailing why you are interested in the role and your relevant experience. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to complete our additional application form.
