South Central Youth is an innovative youth service situation in South London, providing holistic support for young people who are at risk of getting involved with gang culture and crime. Looking for a qualified accountant to serve as Treasurer.

What will you be doing?

Objective

The Trustees, acting together, govern South Central Youth, safeguarding its assets and applying them as efficiently and effectively as possible to further South Central Youth’s objects as set out in its governing document.

The Treasurer will oversee the financial matters of South Central Youth and report to the Board of Trustees at regular intervals about the financial health of the organisation. The Treasurer will ensure that effective financial measures, controls and procedures are put in place, and are appropriate for South Central Youth.

Principal Treasurer Responsibilities

  • Oversight of budgets, accounts, financial statements and financial reports which are presented to the Board of Trustees after discussion with the CEO
  • Being assured that the financial resources of the organisation meet its present and future needs and are within the charity’s objects
  • Liaising closely with the CEO to prepare financial reporting, planning and oversight for the Board
  • Managing the relationship with our external accountant on areas such as payroll, recording the cashbook, and uploading receipts to Quickbooks
  • Advising on the financial implications of the organisation’s strategic plans
  • Liaising with South Central Youth’s auditors where appropriate
  • Liaising with the CEO to ensure that the charity’s annual accounts are compliant with the current Charities SORP

General Trustee responsibilities

  • To ensure the organisation effectively applies its resources (financial and otherwise) to delivering its mission
  • To contribute actively to the Board of Trustees’ role in shaping strategic direction of the organisation
  • Ensure there is an effective process in place for monitoring and managing risk
  • Galvanise support for the mission within the wider community and own network, and act as an ambassador for the mission

What are we looking for?

  • Currently working within finance in a charitable, public sector or commercial organisation
  • Qualified chartered accountant
  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to explain complex financial information to non-finance people.
  • A commitment to a collegiate way of working
  • A commitment to the organisation and a willingness to devote the necessary time and effort
  • Experience of strategic financial thinking and planning
  • Demonstrate a healthy understanding of risk
  • Previous trustee/treasurer experience is desirable

What difference will you make?

This role will help ensure the long term sustainability and success of South Central Youth. As a vital member of the Board of Trustees this role will help set the strategy for the organisation ensuring that SCY serves its beneficiaries in the best way possible.
