An opportunity to use your financial skills to contribute to creating and celebrating community in this urban parish in Southampton.

What will you be doing?

The treasurer will work alongside the PCC and leadership to look after the financial aspect of the parish. The role will involve:

  • paying invoices and expenses claims
  • book keeping
  • managing financial records, standing orders and regular payments, including those to the Diocese
  • producing a draft budget each year
  • being a signatory on all accounts and and designated user for online banking
  • managing grants received for specific projects and activities
  • reporting to PCC meetings held bi-monthly

In the initial stages, the role is being developed and updated to reduce the amount of time required to achieve these tasks. Input into this process would be welcome from a new treasurer but support is also available to support this development as well.

The role of treasurer is vital in underpinning everything the Parish does, impacting the community and individuals through it's many activities.

What are we looking for?

Book keeping skills, basic accountancy skills and computer literacy are essential for this role. Previous experience of being a treasurer in a charitable context is desirable but not essential. An understanding of the Church of England may be helpful but is not essential.

The treasurer will be someone with excellent communication skills and a proven ability to communicate and explain financial information to others. They will have the ability to work as part of a team but also on their own. They will also need to demonstrate a willingness to learn how to use any software that is in use for the role, if they are not already familiar with it.

What difference will you make?

Your help and expertise will enable us to confidently offer the activities and programmes which continue to build and celebrate community in the Parish, providing people of all ages with space to be themselves, develop their potential and come together. Your financial knowledge applied to this role will ensure these activities are delivered in a sustainable and effective way going forward and provide the opportunity to plan ahead.
